Another Old School Experiment
Another of the Old School Experiments...
Bottle
14in.H x 9.5in.
POR
at times pieces come from the kiln and their value is uncertain...
this piece has been sitting on the shelf for over a year...
originally thought not very nice really, now I wonder what the &#@% I was thinking...
the difference between expectation and reality, projection and the truth...
those polarities seem always to be present in life,
it's the managing of them
that separates the wheat from the chaff...
wood firing teaches many things on many levels...

"Glazing Technique"
I laughingly call this image "Glazing Technique"
this is the glaze right after the pour on...
it was left purposely to dry and thicken, creating blobs and chunks...
perfect for uneven application, which is my preference...
the thicker glaze also adheres to an already fired piece more easily,
though it takes at least a day+ to dry,
without the wood stove helping out... even then a long time...
no hurry... just experiments... searching on for some magic...
the piece below was handled in this manner...

Old School
Old School Experiments
Bottle/White on White on White
I have been experimenting with old traditional shapes for a while now, mostly bottles,
as a contradiction to the Lava/geology pieces... as a counter check on myself...
after many bottles, 50 or so, and much disappointment, I'm thinking
this might, just might have the depth and curiosity I was seeking...
smooth skin lacking in the skeletal underpinning I always seem to need, but
I'm liking this one... finally... it's been a few years...

The exotics
Rice Bowl
from time to time I am given what I have called exotics from the kiln...
these pieces carry new information unseen before,
effects we had not achieved together, or just a feeling not present in existing pieces...
they are often fired multiple times or fired in contradictory ways as experiments...
regularly these cups and bowls fail miserably and are useless...
but when they don't, I have something I think extraordinary, to contemplate and use myself...
I hold them here in a cabinet for Wyatt's future...... they are used at special moments...
Someday... HE might be paid for them...
