the thing I loved most about studying old Japanese Bizen and Iga pots, most especially Iga pots, was the multiple personalities each piece possessed...with each turn of the pot a new variant of the shape and color tonalities appeared...always keeping you interested, curious and hungry for the next view...
it was not possible to see one view or image and assume you "knew" what you were looking at... you didn't, simple as that...these fulgurite pots were made with those ideas in mind...discovering Fulgurites was a revelation to me and pushed me much further down the roadway of Iga and wood firing into something further...many have wondered why after years of very articulated, obviously well crafted work I would go here into what many have thought was incompetent and poorly made... I saw these pieces in my mind in my early twenties...it took all this time to become good enough at my job to be capable of making them...I think they are beautiful and am exceedingly proud to show them...try to give them a chance you collectors out there...try to forget all you know...all the assumptions underlying your thinking about pots...relax into them and feel the energy of the earth
vibrating toward you... breathe and slow down...it's hard in a picture, but in real life you'll feel exactly what I mean...
